What is volleyball drop-in at Boomtown FieldhouseUSA?Drop-in is meant for volleyball players ages 14 and up to play and meet other players to play volleyball. This is to build new connections and community with the intention to give people something to focus on rather than on their phones or being on the streets. As a center for the community, we aim to provide a safe place for people to play volleyball that has been overtaken by other sports or programs such as pickleball or basketball. Boomtown FieldhouseUSA is a volleyball first facility. Drop-in is $10/person to play! We cannot guarantee quality or or skill level of players and games. By it's nature it is random, but we encourage you to bring friends to improve your experience! For junior volleyball club players, this is not the same as 'Open-Gym'. There will be no coaches or drills at drop-in. Please sign up for those separately. Absolutely no club recruitment activities or outside coaching activities is allowed during drop-in as per USAV rules. Any infractions by any club will be reported to RMR volleyball immediately and sanctioned.
-

I am new to drop-in, I do not know anyone! How do I get into a game? This is certainly a common question as we have several hundred people come to Boomtown FieldhouseUSA drop-in volleyball! For new people, usually try to jump into a game on one of the 2 on and off courts. If you are struggling to find a team to play with, please ask around to see if you can fill a spot. If this is difficult because you are shy, we understand that and our hosts may be able to help introduce you to regulars players. However, we cannot force anyone to do anything they are not comfortable with at drop-in as this is meant to be casual play. We use social determination for teams to identify their teams, and teams tend to form around players who are skilled. We would ask you to try harder to introduce yourself and keep trying to connect with people, as there are certainly many friendly players at FieldhouseUSA. One of the main barriers may be skill level. If you are not an avid volleyball player or your skills may not be snuff and finding it difficult to find teams because of skill level, please consider joining some of our adult or junior volleyball lessons we host regularly every week with our professional volleyball coaches. This also is a great avenue for you to meet additional skill level players and have a better entry into knowing people at drop-in! We have a variety of options you can visit at the Boomtown training website! Many new players have tremendous success with this pathway! We have over a 95% return rate for our volleyball trainees. Our final recommendation is to join a league as that is guaranteed games rather than the the social determination of drop-in, which can be difficult to navigate for less experienced players. Please consider join Meet.Play.Chill. for more formalized games!

What are the rules of drop in? How do I play?Drop in is structured to allow the most number of games possible. The hosts may operate drop-in as they see fit based on their experience. We want to ensure there are enough people playing games, so we restrict the number of available courts to prevent a small number of people playing on 1 court and not enough to form games. Our intention is to play games, not to use this as a practice court time. All games are played until 25, no cap win by 2, and there should be no hitting lines for more than 3 minutes for warming up. Court rules are as follows: All courts except a single court (see point 2) will always operate 2 games played by a team then the team comes off the court. At the start of the evening for the first game only, the winning team remains to play the 2nd match. The next team comes up to challenge the court and then begins the 2 on then off rotation. This may be bypassed if there is not enough teams to play next, and the teams may continue to play back to back until such time a team comes to challenge. The winner of that game will stay on to play the next team. Only 1 Court is deemed winner stays court. There is no written or waitlist (as this gets cheated), and there is no spot saving system. To have the next challenge, we expect the challenger and their team to remain and keep score/line judge. The team that keeps score and refs is the next team to play. There should never be more than 2 teams waiting to play on the winner stays court. We want people to play as much as possible, so do not clog the winners court. We encourage the 4th and 5th teams waiting to move to another court and challenge another court until such time they can get in line after those games. Please note, this court may move as deemed fit by the hosts.
